What is the Service Charge?
This is the question we get asked most often by our clients. More specificially, what is this and what does it cover?
The term “Service Charge” is used to encompass various expenses incurred while planning and executing your event, such as administration, labor cost, napkins, chafing dishes, utilities and more. We invest hours of planning before your event to ensure its success, and the service charge helps us cover those expenses.
The service charge is a standard component on every caterer's bill, though it may be referred to by a different name. At MacDonald Farm, we charge a flat service charge based on the size of your party. This allows us to keep our food costs down, providing you with more food for less money.
Please find below a detailed breakdown of the service charge and its coverage before, and on the day of your event.
Chef Daniel: We offer the services of a French-trained personal chef who graduated from the country's top culinary school. Chef Daniel has extensive experience cooking for celebrities, TV, and movie productions, professional sports teams, million-dollar weddings, and large corporations such as Google and Facebook. He has expertise in food and wine pairing, menu consulting for health stores such as Whole Foods, and baking. In addition, he has assisted in the opening of four successful restaurants.
Sourcing our ingredients: Our approach to catering is unique in that we take the time to grow our ingredients, which means we spend hours planting, growing, harvesting, and processing them before we begin prepping. This allows us to stay true to our food philosophy and present you with unforgettable, quality food.
Business Operation Costs: The service charge helps cover the cost of doing business. This includes things like administration, insurance, advertising, day to day operations, vehicle maintenance for delivery, purchasing of one-time-use serve wear, such as cocktail napkins, toothpicks, plastic spoons, service instruments, etc. Kitchen supplies for day-of such as trash bags, paper towels, rags, cleaning supplies, and fire extinguisher.
Access: Consistent access to your executive chef and head gardener via email/phone for any questions, concerns, clarifications, and alterations to menu and event details. We offer the ability for Chef Daniel to custom tailor your menu to fit what you want for your wedding. We also include an exclusive “garden tasting” with your personal chef and gardener on our farm. We use this time to meet face to face, sample some food prepared by Chef Daniel, and go over more details about your wedding.
