One of Chattanooga's most beloved overlooks, Snooper's Rock is a dramatic sandstone ledge perched above the Tennessee River Gorge in Prentice Cooper State Forest, offering sweeping panoramic views of the river's wide bend and forested ridgelines beyond. Standing ceremony only; small group feel strongly recommended. Free permit required — apply 3+ weeks in advance with the Tennessee Division of Forestry at (423) 658-5551. No chairs, tables, arches, structures, amplified music, confetti, or flower petals. No motorized vehicles off designated roads; ceremonies must occur between sunrise and sunset. Scenic 0.3-mile hike from the main trailhead. Limited gravel parking; arrive early on weekends. No wheelchair accessibility. Note: Forest closes for managed hunts (fall/spring); Tower Drive and side roads close Dec 20–Mar 15 annually. Commercial photography permit required separately.
