IT ALL STARTED WHEN…...

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…
Growing up, I lived in a strictly religious household. Skirts /dresses past the knee, no bare shoulders, makeup was forbidden, no nail polish, and hair could be lightly styled but not too much. All this was a requirement of your commitment to “God” as a women. It was also a reflection of your humility. After all it was considered vain to think of yourself as beautiful. As I grew older this only became more apparently strict because as a women you shouldn’t draw attention to yourself, there were men around.
At about 16, I started questioning all of these womanly requirements. I knew what I had been taught my whole life, but it didn’t feel right. It wasn’t fair that all the other girls at my high school could feel pretty, go on dates or to school dances. I had to be hidden. Any request to attend a school function had to be obtained from the “man of the house” and all “church” rules had to be obeyed. I remember feeling so controlled and bitter that I wasn’t normal.
One day on the bus, my friend from school was putting on eyeliner and mascara. I asked why she was doing it on the bus. She replied “ because my mom wont let me wear makeup.” This was where I embarked on journey of curiosity and rebellion. “Can I try some too?” I asked shyly. “Sure” she said. That was the only answer I needed.
The inception of Beauty By Bueno happened before I had even realized it. Needless to say, something good stemmed from my childhood of abuse and repression. And I finally separated myself from all the nonsense of my youth 5 months before I turned 18. Moving in with my other parent was the best decision I ever made for myself. I finally got a chance to live the life of a normal teenager my senior year of high school. It was liberating to finally be allowed to be me! A piece of who I would eventually become today. My journey of self discovery happened way past those of my peers. And it has been a long and extremely bumpy road.
I have spent 10 years in the adult world learning my purpose and mastering an art of something I am truly passionate about. You are never really done learning. You are forever a “Student of Life” as they say. But there comes a point in time where you’re fairly confident in who you are as a person and what your goals are in life.
At 27, I know what that is. I am a business owner, entrepreneur, and artist. That is what I want everyone to know and remember me by. I’ve been a college student, a cashier, a supervisor, an assistant manager, a jewelry store clerk, Accounting Club President, IRS tax volunteer, a server, a model , a brand ambassador, a personal assistant , hostess, etc. And no matter what I’ve done and excelled at, I always come back to what I’m passionate about, Beauty By Bueno.
