Falkirk Cultural Center sits on an 11-acre estate in San Rafael, California, in a mostly urban setting. Built in 1888 in the Queen Anne and Eastlake style, the property has operated as a public cultural center since 1974 and is listed on the National Historic Register, giving couples a landmark mansion and grounds as the backdrop for a ceremony or reception.
Couples can use the Wedding Lawn, an open outdoor space with overhead string lighting; the Rose Garden, a planted garden setting suited to ceremonies; the covered Veranda; and, inside the mansion, the Parlor and the smaller Dining Room. The Front Porch offers a covered spot for cocktail hour or as a transition between spaces. Across the property's outdoor and indoor spaces, the venue can host up to 125 guests seated or standing.
The venue does not provide in-house catering: renters bring their own caterer or choose one from the property's vendor list, and alcohol is bring-your-own rather than served by the venue. There are no guest rooms or lodging on site. A few decoration rules are worth planning around: open flames are not permitted, nothing may be nailed, stapled, or hung with adhesive hooks, and couples are responsible for cleanup after the event.
