Martin Johnson House is a vintage cottage in La Jolla, in San Diego, California, built in 1916 and once home to Scripps professors and their families. Today it is a small, primarily outdoor wedding venue with views of the Pacific, La Jolla Cove and Scripps Pier, plus grassy areas with benches and tall cypress trees for shade.
Couples can use two spaces. The Upper and Lower Teak Decks are two large multi-level decks with outlets for music and lighting. They work for both a ceremony and a reception, and the decks list a capacity of 130 guests. The Interior Room is an indoor space with a small kitchenette. It holds up to 50 guests lecture style or 40 at banquet tables, which makes it a handy backup or a spot for a smaller gathering. Two ADA unisex bathrooms have outdoor entrances.
The house is rented as a venue only, with no in-house catering. Outside caterers are welcome, but they must come from the approved caterer list, so it helps to speak with them before you sign a contract. Weddings can be booked on Saturdays and Sundays. A 25% non-refundable deposit is required, and the balance is due three weeks before the event. Packages start at $3,000.
