Location Guide

Colorado Guide

Colorado's Rocky Mountains provide some of the most dramatic elopement backdrops in the country. Here are the most popular mountain destinations on Wedy:

Rocky Mountain National Park

RMNP is the crown jewel of Colorado elopements. With over 300 miles of trails and elevations ranging from 7,800 to 14,259 feet, the scenery is staggering. Sprague Lake offers a calm, reflective alpine lake setting accessible to all fitness levels. Dream Lake trailhead provides towering mountain views after a moderate 1.1-mile hike. 3M Curve is a popular roadside pulloff on Trail Ridge Road with panoramic valley views — ideal for golden-hour ceremonies. A Special Use Permit ($200) is required, ceremonies are limited to 35 guests and 2 hours, and you must stay on established trails or designated areas.

Sapphire Point

Sapphire Point Overlook is one of the most popular elopement spots in Summit County — and it’s easy to see why. The short 0.3-mile trail leads to a peninsula jutting into Dillon Reservoir with 360-degree mountain views including the Tenmile Range. It’s accessible year-round, though winter may require snowshoes. A permit through the Dillon Ranger District is required ($100–$200). Its proximity to Breckenridge and Keystone makes it convenient for post-ceremony celebrations.

Breckenridge

This historic mining town at 9,600 feet offers a charming Main Street for pre- and post-ceremony festivities, with the surrounding Tenmile Range and Blue River providing endless ceremony backdrops. Boreas Pass Road is a favorite for photographers — an old railroad grade with sweeping valley views and dense aspen groves that turn brilliant gold in late September. The Breckenridge Nordic Center offers groomed meadow settings with mountain views.

Aspen & Maroon Bells

Maroon Bells is the most photographed location in Colorado — twin 14,000-foot peaks reflected in Maroon Lake. It’s a bucket-list elopement destination. Vehicle access is restricted during summer (shuttle required from Aspen Highlands), so plan logistics carefully. Permits are required through the White River National Forest. The aspen groves surrounding Aspen turn electric gold from mid-September through early October, creating some of the most stunning fall elopement photos anywhere.

Vail

Vail Mountain offers alpine meadows, wildflower-covered slopes, and Gore Range views. Piney River Ranch provides a backcountry lake setting accessible by car. In winter, Vail’s snow-covered peaks create a magical ceremony backdrop. The town itself offers European-inspired village architecture for intimate post-ceremony dinners. Betty Ford Alpine Gardens — the highest botanical garden in North America at 8,200 feet — is a unique alternative for couples who want a curated natural setting.
